Lee Harman scored four as Baldock Town romped to a 7-0 win over Wodson Park in their first home game in the SSML on Wednesday evening.

Luke Hennessey started the rout, whilst skipper Anthony Bowskill netted a brace and but for an outstanding performance from the visiting keeper it could quite easily have been double.

Town manager Scott Grant called his side’s first half performance “the best he had seen in some time” as the home side raced into a 3-0 lead inside 27 minutes.

Both Lee Harman and Nathan Aulsberry had already tested the reflexes of the visiting keeper before Town inevitably found a way through on 13 minutes. A cross found Luke Hennessey on the right hand side of the penalty area and despite the close attentions of at least three defenders, he brought the ball back onto his left foot before guiding the ball home off the far post.

Baldock were totally dominant from the first whistle and Lee Harman soon doubled the Reds lead when he burst from deep to break the offside trap before confidently slotting past the onrushing Wodson Park keeper.

Seven minutes later it was three and this was arguably the pick of the bunch. Half of the team was involved as Town worked the ball with a swift passing move from back to front in a matter of seconds and skipper Anthony Bowskill this time burst through to smash home from the edge of the penalty area.

For a ten minute spell towards the end of the half, Town let their levels drop slightly and this gave the visiting defence a breather after a total onslaught in the opening half an hour. During this period, Wodson Park fashioned a couple of half chances, but the closest they came was a speculative low drive, which sailed wide of the target.

Normal service was resumed right on half-time though when Lee Harman looped a near post Luke Hennessey cross into the roof of the net.

After the interval, the game was in danger of petering out as the home side took their foot off the gas. However, Harman sparked Town back into life again with two goals in three minutes midway through the second half to take his tally on the night to four and the score to 6-0.

On another night, Harman could well have had double figures himself as the keeper, who despite getting no protection from his defence, continued to pull off some outstanding saves. He could do nothing about the seventh and final goal of the night though.

Another well-crafted move, this time up the right hand side saw the ball cut back and Bowskill hit a blockbuster of a left-foot shot into the top corner of the net from 20 yards. Substitute Josh Butina then went on a one-man mission to get in on the goalscoring act, but the score remained at 7-0 and Town made it a maximum haul of nine points from three SSML games taking them up to second in the table.

The Reds will hope to continue their 100% start to the campaign when Amersham Town visit Top Field on Saturday – 3pm KO.
