Penalties and Red Cards, but the Reds Progress
By Mike Godfrey
Baldock Town progress through to the next round of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Cup with both teams playing the 2nd half with 10 men.
The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Adam Harpur in the home team’s goal, could not hold on to a Charlie Hunter free-kick and Greg Shaw was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.
The lead was only held for 9 minutes however when Sean Brettell got onto an Owen Robertson cross putting the scores level.
But just before half-time, Kieran Barnes was pushed in the box by the visiting defender Callum Dudrenec causing the referee to point to the spot and in the ensuing melee, both Dudrenec and Kim Forsythe were shown red cards for violent conduct. Barnes slotted home the kick sending the Reds into the break with a 2-1 lead.
On the hour mark, Baldock Town were awarded another spot-kick when Lewis Barker was felled by the Magpies Josh Humbert, giving Kieran Barnes the opportunity to double his goal tally for the evening which he took willingly.
Colney Heath got one back from Jack Woods with 10 minutes to go and Baldock weathered a late storm to get the deserved win.
