Match Reviews:

With 8 FA Vase ties along with 5 league matches, it was a busy day on the SSML Premier Division club front.

FA Vase ties
Of the 8 vase ties, SSML clubs were successful in two matches and one goes to a Tuesday night replay. In the league, Biggleswade FC extend their lead at the top of the table and the Oxhey Jets v Cockfosters encounter was abandoned for a violent act.

Leverstock Green and Baldock Town both booked their places into Monday’s 2nd Round FA Vase draw. Green were victorious for once without the help of JJ Lacey hitting the back of the net. They saw off Sawbridgeworth Town of the Essex Senior League 3-0 with strikes from Chris Blunden, Jordan Goode-Keeley and Luke Preedy.

Baldock Town also won by the same score, beating SSML Division One side Brimsdown with goals from Harry Holland, Kim Forsythe and substitute Sam James.

Colney Heath were taken to a replay after extra time by Eastern Counties Premier outfit Histon with the Magpies goal coming in the 90th minute from Spencer Clarke-Mardel.

Biggleswade United, London Colney, North Greenford United, Crawley Green and Harpenden Town all went out at this 1st Round stage.

Biggleswade United lost 2-3 after extra time at home to United Counties League Holbeach United – Rafe Goodman and Joe Hankins on target for the Red and Blue part of Biggleswade. London Colney lost 2-3, again after extra time, after being two goals to the good. Elliot Beevor and Robert Armstrong netting for the Blueboys.

NGU went down 2-4 at the interestingly named May & Baker Eastbrook Community who play out of Barking and are members of the Eastern Counties League Division One South. In another tie going to extra time, NGU’s goals came from Aaron McLeish and Lee Armitt. McLeish also found himself taking an early bath after being shown a red card.

Harpenden Town lost 0-5 at Stowmarket Town while Crawley Green, who have been in good form of late, were surprisingly on the wrong end of a 2-4 scoreline at Thame Rangers from the Hellenic League Division One East.

Premier Division
The main topic of conversation in the Premier Division was the abandonment of the Oxhey Jets v Cockfosters match. The game was abandoned when a Fosters player struck a match official after a red card was shown. But there is more to the story than that and until such a time that the full details are released it would be wrong to make comment on the sad and sorry affair.

Biggleswade FC pulled a further point clear of Tring Athletic (who didn’t play), gaining a 2-2 draw at Edgware Town. The Wares scorers were Mikkel James and Claudio Tipote while FC replied through Lawrie Marsh and Alex Marsh.

A second half Paul Wright goal was enough for Hadley to claim three points at home to Leighton Town while Arlesey Town cruised to a 4-0 win at London Tigers. Lorrell Smith with an eleven minute 2nd half hat-trick, and player-manager (joint) James Hatch being on target for the Blues.

At the Hollow, Potton United also won 4-0 at the expense of struggling Wembley with goals from Danny Webb, Aaron Murrell, Christian Smail and substitute Gary Ansell-Carter completing the rout for the Royals.
