Wednesday 5th December 2018 – MATCH PREVIEW

Next up for Baldock Town is the visit of Harpenden Town on Wednesday evening (5th) in a Spartan South Midlands League fixture. With both teams sitting in the lower reaches of the table, it is certainly a bit early to start labelling matches as “six pointers”, but both sides will be keen to secure three points to ease their situations.

The Harps come to the New Lamb Meadow in 19th position in the League table having so far secured 11 points from 15 games. They have been beaten in 4 of their last 5 fixtures, but when you take into account that 3 of these defeats were against in-form sides such as Biggleswade FC, Hadley and Biggleswade United, it maybe doesn’t seem such a bad record.

Only a month ago (while we were going out of the FA Vase at Stowmarket), they banged in 7 at home against Potton United, proving nothing can be guaranteed in this League. In their most recent match on Saturday, they drew 1-1 away against the recently improved Wembley, however it is noticeable that they are not particularly good travellers with Saturday’s result being the only point they have secured away from their Rothamsted Park home, so far this season.

FURTHER DECEMBER FIXTURES

This coming Saturday (8th) we travel to Milton Keynes to take on MK Gallacticos in a League Challenge Trophy Quarter-Final tie. The Gallacticos, or the Spartans as they are nicknamed, play in the 2nd Division and having no floodlights, this match kicks off at 1.30pm (note: the original scheduled away League fixture at Colney Heath has been postponed).

On Tuesday 11th, the Reds are again on the trail of silverware when our destination will be Cotlandswick for a Premier Division Cup semi-final against London Colney KO 7.45pm.

The next home match is on Saturday 15th when Stotfold visit the New Lamb Meadow for a local derby.

Before the Stotfold match, the club are hosting another of our previously very successful pre-match lunches. On the menu this time is home cooked curry with a glass of wine or a beer, followed by cheese and biscuits at half-time.

The cost for this delectable extravaganza is £20 a head or £35 per couple and that is inclusive of match entry as well. Bring the kids – they eat free from Capt’ Spatch! – A culinary treat certainly NOT to be missed!
