Saturday 8th December 2018 – MATCH PREVIEW

On Saturday, Baldock Town (weather permitting of course) again make a trip into unchartered territory. This time it’s to deepest, darkest Milton Keynes, for a League Challenge Trophy Quarter-Final tie against MK Gallacticos.

MKG (or the Spartans as they are known), play in the 2nd Division of the SSML and currently sit in a respectable mid-table position of 8th, having accrued 15 points, winning 4 and drawing 3 of their 12 matches. They won their most recent fixture at home to Totternhoe in the League by 6-2 and with scoring 24 goals in their last 6 matches, seem to be in a fine vein of form, especially in front of goal.

Current Form (last 8 matches)
BALDOCK TOWN - L L W D W D L L
MK GALLACTICOS – W L W W W W D W

Season Top Scorers
BALDOCK TOWN
Kieran Barnes 8, Russell Bull 7, Kim Forsythe 6.
MK GALLACTICOS
Josh Douglas Smith 16, Mohammed Ahmed 7, Demarlo Smith 6.

So far in the League Challenge Trophy, the Gallacticos have beaten Stotfold 5-2 at Roker Park in the 1st round, followed by a 5-3 victory away at Wodson Park in the 2nd. In the 3rd round they caused the major shock of the tournament so far winning 3-2 away at Biggleswade FC. By all accounts this was no fluke and they were very good value for their victory.

The winners of this tie will play any one of Winslow United, Ampthill Town or Colney Heath in the semi-final (most likely away from home).

When it comes to details of MKG’s ground, I’m afraid I am at something of a loss as our opponents have not replied to my messages. With the game kicking off at 1.30 it is obvious they have no lights and the cost of admission, whether there will be a programme issued and if there are any refreshments available on the day, are questions which will be answered by anyone brave enough to try and negotiate the MK roundabout system.

As before, when we played away at Pitstone & Ivinghoe, I believe there is no seating or covered accommodation (P&I were very prompt at replying to my messages I might add). MKG play in green, so presumably we will be in red.

The ground address is below – I’m sure your sat-nav will find it ok!
