This coming Saturday, Baldock Town continue their tour of the London Boroughs when we visit Cockfosters FC for a Spartan South Midlands League, Premier Division fixture.
After last Saturday’s excursion into West London in the LB of Ealing, where we beat North Greenford United, this week finds the Reds travelling down the A1 again to North London, this time into the Borough of Enfield.
Often thought of as being at the top end or terminus of the Piccadilly Line and not much else (I’m sure the locals get slightly fed up with that), Cockfosters has housed a football club since the early 1920’s and they have played at their Chalk Lane ground since their formation.
Last season was a struggle for the Fosters ending up in 20th place, but only a year earlier in 2016/17 they ended the season in 3rd position and as recently as 2013/14 they were SSML Challenge Cup winners.
This season has been something of a continuation of last year and until recently the Fosters have found things difficult shall we say. However they now occupy 15th position in the table with a record of P8 W2 D3 L3 Pts9 with a goal difference of -9. You would imagine that their plight is still something of a concern for their supporters, but recent results have been a little more encouraging.
Unbeaten now in 5 matches, they have become draw experts, sharing the points at home to both Stotfold and London Tigers, and gaining an impressive looking 2-2 result at Leighton Town. They also beat Redbridge 2-1 at home in a London Senior Cup tie. Most recently on Tuesday evening, a late winner 4 minutes into stoppage time by George Beattie brought 3 welcome points at home to Leverstock Green.
Please note: Cockfosters play in all-red, so presumably the Baldock Reds will become the Blues for the day.
