Archie Groves becomes 1st Winner of George Groves Trophy

I was invited to attend the U12's presentation afternoon at Templars on Saturday 24th June.

It was a bit of a shock to have all these under 12's actually looking at me at eye level! They are a tall bunch!

It was a lovely presentation and their coaches had nothing but praise for all the boys and they were obviously very proud of all of them and what they had achieved this past season. They were the League Winners of the Red Division Phase 1. I know these boys are going to bigger and better things next season and I fully intend getting to watch a couple of games.

In a very poignant gesture that had the whole room in tears, a very special award has been created in memory of George Groves. George was a constant supporter and very passionate about football. His son Darren is the coach and his grandson Archie is a team player. As Dan Luckett fought back his tears to tell us all about this special award, the room suddenly became very quiet. It showed that there was an immeasurable amount of respect and love for the late George. It seemed only right and proper that Archie Groves would be the first winner of the trophy and I'm sure that all the boys in the future that win this award will know that they have been truly deserving of it.

There is a definite Team Spirit amongst these boys and I look forward to next season and seeing them play a few games.

Thank you Dan and Donna for inviting me to the presentation. It was lovely to meet all the parents and the boys. I'll see you all next season!!
