An Alfie Barker double and a goal apiece from Lewis Barker and Josh Coley keeps pressure on at the top of the league.

A View from the Far Post

Baldock hosted Ampthill at New Lamb Meadow after a break of 10 days having not played since beating the visitors 2-0 in the return fixture.

Manager Luke Gregson had a strong squad to choose from with only Russell Bull unavailable and captain and goalkeeper Jack Farmer missing through a rib injury. Adam Harpur came in between the sticks and Liam Kenna took over the captaincy.

Baldock started much the brighter with Josh Coley and Owen Robertson causing havoc down the flanks. Robertson had his action cut short by injury however after 25 minutes and was replaced with Zach Decker.

On 39 minutes the deadlock was broken. Decker, carrying on from fellow youngster Robertson waltzed down the right before finding his shot tipped around the post. From the resulting corner, Lewis Barker was at hand to rifle the ball home after sneaking in at the back post.

Ampthill hit back a minute from the break. A long throw got half cleared only for Ampthill to hit across the box and Daly had a tap-in at the back post.

After the break Baldock suffered an early blow with Kenna, challenging for a header, appeared to be knocked out before a nasty landing. Myles Lee came on his place.

Baldock were soon knocking on the door and after a couple of chances for Coley and Harrison Holland they had to wait until 77 minutes to take the lead. Decker again impressive with his direct running found fellow substitute Alfie Barker who finished with aplomb - the celebration however needs some working on.

On 88 minutes it was 3-1 a one two by Barker and Decker saw the latter find Coley unmarked and he headed home.

There was time for one more in added time Coley crossing for Barker who brought it down with a great touch and smashed home.
