Buckingham Athletic arrived at New Lamb Meadow on a bitterly cold Saturday afternoon to face a Baldock team boosted by the return to the starting eleven of Stephen Brooks, Liam Kenna, Louis Lee and Freddie Morris.

After playing out a goalless draw on Tuesday night away at Langford and also a stalemate in the reverse fixture at Buckingham two weeks previous, Luke Gregson was looking for his men to put in a performance of a team expecting promotion.

In a quiet first half against the wind and a glaring low sun Baldock slowly found their feet and had the lions share of possession however the away side had the only real chance of the first half. A hopeful long ball in to the sun saw the Buckingham striker capatilise only for Jack Farmer to make a smart save.

The second half was a much different story. Lee, controlling the game in the middle of the park, looked to get on the ball at every opportunity with the tireless Morris and Lewis Barker supporting him well.

The first chance came later than expected with 71 minutes gone. A Harry Holland corner was flicked on by Kenna only for it to escape everyone following in.

Five minutes later the deadlock was broken. Again Holland to Kenna at the front post and Barker hooked it goalwards. Barker and Lee both wheeled away in celebration with the latter claiming it hit him on the way in.

The game was nearly put to bed straight after. Morris this team escaping the loose shackle fittings of his marker only to thunder his header against the upright.

A frantic last 10 minutes ensued but Baldock who have a knack this season of not conceding many goals were resolute. The last couple of minutes saw a penalty shout quite rightly waved away by the referee after Kenna thwarted their centre forward in a last ditch tackle.

Another clean sheet for Baldock and back to winning ways. Now up to 3rd in the league and a chance to go second with games in hand.

Next Saturday sees a break from the league as Baldock travel to Wormley in the County Cup.

One has to wonder what has happened to all the reporters and photographers at The Comet of late.

A year or so ago Baldock were never off the back page, now it just seems to be dedicated to Darren Sarll and the Stevenage Team.

Baldock have been making history this year and need their profile to be massively built up if they are going to have any chances of making it into the next division and get a stadium of their own. Maybe there is someone else who would like to jump on the bandwagon and give Baldock a helping hand ....
